Oxford’s Hinterland textile motorcycle jacket represents Oxford’s latest addition to the Advanced Rider Series range of motorcycle clothing. The Hinterland was new to the range in 2020 and superceded the popular Mondial as their range topping laminated motorcycle jacket.

The Hinterland is a classically styled, smart and unfussy looking jacket (especially with the conservative colour range), but this is not necessarily a bad thing given the maturing UK motorcycle market. Indeed, it can be a real plus point to have a warm, waterproof motorcycle jacket that you can wear both on and off the bike in both physical and mental comfort.

Aesthetics aside, the Hinterland focuses on the three central features common to all Advanced Rider Series garments. Dry2Dry waterproofing/laminating technology, DirectVent cooling, and WarmDry thermal technology.

Oxford say that their advanced series exists to combat extremes in weather – be that wet, heat, or cold, by using advanced layering systems to offer a better level of versatility and protection from the widest range of conditions.

Advanced laminated construction

The Dry2Dry (you start dry and end dry!) tri-laminate technology is Oxford’s highest performing membrane. This membrane is bonded between the outer jacket shell, and the liner – the construction giving the advantage of a motorcycle jacket that doesn’t get heavy when wet, is quick to dry out, and is lightweight and easy to wear. The Hinterland is waterproof, windproof and breathable.

This next generation laminated construction also leads to higher abrasion test results, stronger seams and improved breathability. This has helped the Hinterland achieve an "AA" CE protection rating.

Warmth is taken care of by WarmDry - a removable, high insulation & low bulk thermal layer with Polartec Powergrid technology.

Versatile construction

The Hinterland is also designed to be used in warmer, or even hot conditions. The jacket features DirectVent cooling technology, which allows unrestricted airflow direct to the body through adjustable zip-open vents on the torso and forearms, with upper back exhaust ventilation.

Laminated textile motorcycle jackets have typically been the domain of more premium and expensive brands. Oxford have sought to narrow the gap between price and performance over the last few years and the Hinterland now represents the pinnacle of this development.
